The note book is a romantic drama, I know this due to the opening of the film. It follows many codes and conventions of this genre.
Firstly it starts of with a piano playing a slow, melodic piece. During the music a sunset slowly appears. A sunset usually represents romantic liaisons. All of the colors in the opening sequence symbolises's love, passion, romance.
The opening scene of The Note Book doesn't let the audience know what is going to happen in this movie. Which is good because it leaves the audience wanting to know whats going to happen next.
There is only one character in this opening scene. You can't really see this actor but you can make out that the character is male, also the male actor is rowing which shows the audience hes athletic and strong. It is also difficult to tell what type of group he fits in.
In this opening scene there are a lot of wide shots and slow fades. They put tints in the camera to make the scenery look more orange. By doing all this it creates a romantic atmosphere.
I think that this opening scene appeals to its audience due to the whole atmosphere it creates.
